Ahab in da house!

I just wanted to brag about my new Noodler's Ahab flex nib fountain pen! I actually got it a couple of days ago but I only managed to photograph it today. I also inked it up and "test drove" it a little. My preliminary conclusion is that it's even better value than the original Noodler's Flex Pen I reviewed in my last post. Stay tuned for a full review!

  1. I'm looking forward to the review and really have to find the time to play with mine.  I do think I'll take your recommendation of taking it apart to clean before inking it up.

  2. Well, mine has proven to be a little bit TOO wet, especially with Noodler's Nikita which is a very watery ink. I should try to adjust the nib a little.

  3. I love the way the pen writes, but have found that getting the flow started after even a brief hiatus, let alone the next day, is almost impossible. Any advice?

  4. Unfortunately, from my limited experience, a pen that dries up quickly is hard to fix. However, during the short time I have inked up my Ahab, it hasn't dried up one bit. Several hours later it still starts up right away. I will have to see how it performs overnight.

Now you might also want to check the ink you're using. Certain inks are very dry and also tend to dry up quickly in the nib/feed. The Nikita I use in Ahab is very watery and probably that's one of the factors that prevent it from drying up too quickly.

  6. I finally got around to taking mine apart, flushing it, and using it a bit.  Like you, I found the pen writing a little too wet and may, at some point, play with adjusting the nib.  I have Diamine Denim in mine.  I only did about a page of writing but the pen had no flow issues in that short time.  Also, the nib has proven to be beautifully smooth.

  7. It behaves much better than the original Noodler's flex and the ink doesn't dry up as much when you don't use it for a few days.
